Favre Away from Green Bay

As a Giants fan, I have always considered the Jets a second rate franchise. Their fans are pompous and with no championships in my lifetime, I never understood why any Generation Xers (or Y and Zers) would want to jump on that futile bandwagon.

Now, for the first time I can remember, it's going to be hard to root against that squad.

Unless you're in Minnesota, or Chicago, or Detroit, how can anyone be a Brett Favre hater? Well, I guess in Detroit the hatred is more focused toward the GM and his staff.....and well, the fact they're in Detroit.

The guy always gives his all and is always in the lineup. For fantasy football players, the guy is a gem.....you never have to worry about his status prior to game time (although you may have to worry about the 4 interceptions he's going to toss to the opposition's secondary).

Some people have said this is the wrong move for the Jets. He's old and had an abyssmal 2006 season. But he's a BIG name and that goes a long way in New York. He brings instant credibility and puts the Jets in line for a playoff spot.

Time will tell, but he's going to inject more enthusiasm into this team and fan base than Kellen Clemens and Chad Pennington.

What's the BEST thing about this pickup? Now I can turn on ESPN and watch Sportscenter and not Favrecenter. How many "Breaking News" updates on Favre walking to the bathroom do we really need in one show?
Hopefully, I'll have some free time and update the masses (yes, all three of you) on the Foof Ighters, Live, and Springsteen shows over the past week.

Did Joe Montana bring credibility and victories to the Chiefs?

Jerry Rice to the Broncos?

Joe Namath with the Rams?

Enthusiasm can only carry you so far, cat. Usually through the preseason. After that, the only thing that will matter will be wins and losses on the field.

I don't think Jets fans care as much as whether it's Favre, Pennington or Clemons under center as they do victories.

Favre may get it done or may not. I don't know.

What I do know is that it's always sad to see these cats clinging to the end of their careers because they have nothing else.

Few are as big a prima donna as Favre. He should have stayed retired and STFU.

Namath (4 TDs, 16 INTs) was a shell of himself and Montana was coming off an injury plagued 1991 season. Rice was a WR who was past his prime.

With Favre, we're talking about a QB....the most important player on offense here. And a QB who just carried his team to the NFC Championship. Tough to make a comparison with those three.

This move has already generated a TON of enthusiasm by the local and national media. I have seen the talk go from PSLs (personal seat licenses) to the Jets actually having a shot to go deep in the playoffs. I think the last time the Jets were in the national spotlight this much was when Joe Namath tried to molest Suzy Kolber.

It's definitely been awhile.

Pennington and Clemens weren't the answers and with the money the team spent on free agent acquisitions, this squad needed to win right now. I agree that Favre might not be the answer, but it's a good risk to take...particularly when you're living in the shadow of a squad that just won a SB title.

I think the media might take a toll on him, but why not take a shot on one of the top QBs of all time?

I should note, I do think a worse investment is the $80 Favre replica jerseys I saw at Foot Locker. Those will be selling alongside the Shockey and Pennington ones for $10 a year from now.
